| 2/9/2010 | Drew Brees, QB (NO) | The Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints are celebrating Mardi Gras-style. Brees and other players were throwing beads into the crowds as confetti floated in the air. One float carried an oversized replica of the Super Bowl trophy. Analysis: Carnival floats carrying players, coaches and team owner Tom Benson started rolling through downtown New Orleans for a victory parade Tuesday. Brees was named game MVP as the Saints' 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts capped just the ninth winning season in the team's 43-year history. |
| 2/9/2010 | Steven Jackson, RB (StL) | Jackson won't face criminal charges over allegations that he beat a girlfriend who was nine months pregnant with the couple's child at his Las Vegas home last year, a police spokeswoman said Tuesday. Investigators found insufficient evidence that Jackson, 26, attacked Supriya Harris of Mableton, Ga., in March 2009, Las Vegas police Officer Barbara Morgan said. Analysis: Morgan said the case will be closed, and that records relating to the investigation would not immediately be released. ``Our investigation is complete,'' said Morgan, a department spokeswoman. ``I don't think the time passage was a factor here. We contacted the victim, the accused and witnesses. There's insufficient evidence to go forward with the case.'' Jackson issued a statement Jan. 28 through one of his agents calling the accusations ``untrue'' and ``hurtful.'' |
| 2/9/2010 | Matt Hasselbeck, QB (Sea) | Seahawks new offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates says Hasselbeck ``has been incredible'' learning his new system. Analysis: A revival for Hasselbeck is quite possible since he's the most experienced quarterback in the NFC West with Kurt Warner having retired. If Hasselbeck has truly picked up this system like Bates claims, the sky is the limit for the Seahawks' offense. |
| 2/9/2010 | Julius Peppers, DE (Car) | Peppers no longer wants a long-term contract with Carolina, saying the Panthers have ignored him this offseason. In an interview aired Tuesday morning on Charlotte radio station WFNZ-AM, the five-time Pro Bowl defensive end indicated he's irritated by the team's ``silence'' and has changed his stance on whether he wants to continue his career in Carolina. Analysis: While agent Carl Carey said last week he believes the Panthers aren't interested in retaining Peppers, Carolina's career sacks leader, team officials haven't announced their plans for the impending free agent. General manager Marty Hurney didn't immediately return a phone message Tuesday. ``How can you say you want to be somewhere when you're not really sure if they want you there because they're not even talking to you?'' Peppers said. |
| 2/8/2010 | Marlin Jackson, CB (Ind) | The Colts think Jackson, their 2005 first-round pick, will return after tearing an ACL for the second straight season. Analysis: In 2008, it was Jackson's right knee. This season, it was his left. |
